Rockaway Beach Day

Last week when our friends were visiting from out of town, we were asked, how far is the beach from you?  Well, the answer, if you take a trip to Rockaway Beach from Lower Manhattan, about an hour!  There is now a ferry that runs to Rockaway from Wall Street with a stop in Sunset Park, BK.  And, it's the price of a subway fare: $2.75 each way.  The ferry is air conditioned, spacious and has a concession with several beers on tap (not my choice on an 8:15AM ferry!) and sells all the beach essentials you may need. Check out the ferry schedule here.  On the way home, the ferry was running late and we ended up taking the A train subway, which is another option to get to Rockaway.

Rockaway sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Sandy and has since had its boardwalk and some beachfront roads rebuilt.  Perfect for my prescribed workout:  15 minute swim/20 minute run/15 minute swim/20 minute run/15 minute swim.  There are also a bunch of new restaurants on the boardwalk - perfect a post run treat.  We also checked out the Rockaway Beach Surf Club and had tacos and fresh juice.  Yum!  Enjoy the photos!
