We've had a busy last month full of hard training, traveling, and fast racing.
To fuel these adventures, we relied on some of our classic Athlete Food recipes, but came up with some fresh new ideas during our long training sessions. Look out for these on the blog over the next few weeks.
In the meantime, here's a quick recap of our race results:
-Laurel recorded her very first Ironman podium finish with a second place at Ironman Mont Tremblant. She was just 6 minutes from the winner, multi-time Ironman champ Mary Beth Ellis, and persevered on a day that involved 8 straight hours of pouring rain. Laurel also recorded her first Half Ironman (70.3) podium a few weeks before Mont Tremblant, coming in second at the Manta Ecuador 70.3. To round out the month, Laurel jumped into the Rev3 Maine Olympic distance race just 7 days after the Ironman and joined Rebeccah on the podium with a third place finish.
-Rebeccah spent the first part of the month working on bike fitness with a 5 day training camp in Thurmont, MD. She then took off for 5 days in Rio for the Oylmpics. Between spectating at various events, Bec fit in some quality sessions with long time training partner Julie Ertel. Time with Julie, a two-time Olympian, provided Bec with a confidence boost that propelled her to her first professional win since 2011. Bec led from start to finish in Maine and held off fast-running up and comer Abby Levene to take the win. Three year old Amy and seven month old Des followed the race from New York.
Other big news: LAUREL QUALIFIED FOR KONA!! She's undecided about whether she will make the trip to the Big Island for the World Championships since she's already raced two ironmans this year. Also, this race wasn't in the budget for the year so she's waiting to secure funding before making a final plan. We'll keep you posted!
