Post-ride Recovery

Winter is here.  My weather app is telling me it feels like 12 degrees outside right now.  No wonder yesterday after I came back from riding outside I had to spend 10 minutes in a painful daze as the warmth tried to return to my fingers.  Made me temporarily wonder whether riding outside was worth it.  Of course it was.

My go to post-cold-weather workout recovery drink has been herbal tea.  Right now I'm into this Breathe Deep Yogi tea (see photo above) that was stuffed into my stocking on Christmas morning.  It's a blend of licorice root, ginger, thyme, cinnamon and several other ingredients, many that have anti-inflammatory properties.  Plus, the licorice root (which doesn't at all resemble black jelly beans) makes it naturally slightly sweet.

Luckily, SJ is a big tea drinker and installed an instant hot water tap in our kitchen, so no waiting for the kettle to boil.

Obviously, tea alone doesn't contain the calories and protein that should go into a post-workout recovery, so we're going to come up with some kind of "winter smoothie" for get us through the next few months.  Let us know if you have any ideas or suggestion!!
