Good-bye Plain White Plates

The discipline and self-control we rely on to push us through the last stretch of a 6 x1 mile track workout melted at the Thanksgiving table.   I indulged at an elite level, consuming two slices of pumpkin cheesecake after several servings of stuffing.  Epic carb overload!  On the drive back to New York Laurel and I promised each other we’d avoid a repeat performance over Christmas and Hannukah. And, according to this Wall Street Journal article, we won’t have to depend on willpower alone. Eating two latkes instead of six, it says, might be as simple as tricking yourself into consuming a smaller portion using plate size and color.
I'll test the theory this weekend, using my Wharhol-inspired butterfly plates from Crate and Barrel. I bought these for a pop-themed baby shower I threw for my sister a few years ago. They’re completely impractical because hardly anything fits on them. But now that’s the point!
My gift to myself this year will be a set of Heath's 6"x6" square aqua salad plates.  The rich and soothing hue could make even a single cookie seem luxurious.
