Travel Tip: Always Bring Your Own (Tempurpedic) Pillow

If there is one piece of travel advice I can give it is this: Bring your own pillow!  I learned this from my aunt Jeanie before my first big international travel race.  She had been around the world in big planes, small planes, trains, boats, airports, cars - you name it. You never know when you will need to rest your head, or what the sleeping conditions will be like at your destination.  But, if you bring your own pillow, you will be covered.

I am excited to bring this TEMPUR-Adapt Pro Pillow with me on my trips this year.  It’s my first time using a memory foam pillow and I love it.  I ordered the β€œLo” model because I typically like really flat, pancake pillows.  This pillow nicely sinks down to my perfect flatness.  I’m wishing I had this at my last ironman race where the air b and b pillow was more like a tall rock!  I ended up making a pillow out of my sweatpants :((.

For the plane, I always have a travel pillow. I’m upgrading to the Tempurpedic Travel Pillow pillow because it’s firm and molds to all those weird plane sleeping positions.  AND, it has a removable and washable cover (unlike my last pillow), so I can promptly get rid of all the travel germs.

Another, pro tip, pack your pillow in your bike case for extra padding!  And, always bring your own pillow case and sheet.  I got these bike sheets just for travel.  Because they are cute, and because I want a familiar feeling to promote good sleep before a race. Taking these little steps to create a good sleeping environment while on the road will make a big difference on race day.
