The Latest Tri Gear: Lightweight Race Kits & Tall Socks

The photo above is a picture of what our 2018 race suits will look like.  It's quite a departure from the bathing suits with no socks we have worn in the past. Why the change? It's a combination of technology, comfort and, of course, a little fashion!

Most triathlon suits are now made with longer sleeves and shorts.  This provides an aerodynamic advantage on the bike because in the world of aerodynamics and speed, skin is slow.  That is why you see cyclists doing time trials in the Tour de France in long sleeves and gloves. That's impractical in a triathlon, hence the short sleeve that is easier to get on quickly.  You might be asking yourself, isn't it hot?? That was my first thought, too. Our kit was custom made and designed by Wyn Republic and they use very soft and lux feeling material that is light weight and breathable. It hardly feels like I have anything on. In addition the fuller coverage is essential for sun protection.

And the tall socks? That's where the fashion comes in! Cyclists adopted this trend a few years ago and the look has hit triathlon.  We love it because it's one more way to add some personal flair.  The socks in the pic above are the Federmut Safety Orange Compression socks.  They not only match our suit but the bright orange color is an easy way to be seen on the road by drivers. To see more colors and designs, we have a Federmut pop-up shop here on our site: http://www.athletefood.com/federmutpopup/

In a few days our suit will also be available via wynrepublic.com - This is the first time we have been able to share our race suit design with the public to buy and we are so excited to see others out there in our special Teton Starry Night design.  Stay Tuned for more details and pictures on this!
