What's For Dinner?

No matter if we win or lose, crush our workouts or get schooled in the pool, we still have to face that universal question: What’s for dinner? In this crazy world, the constancy of feeding ourselves and our families is both a balm and a beast, a gratifying job and and a grueling chore.

Half the battle is picking the right recipe or dish for the night. Do we  have time to make homemade salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cabbage salad for the best-ever Fish Tacos Tuesday? Not likely. But with a jar of our Ancho Chili Spice Mix on hand, we get Good Enough Fish Tacos on the table in 30 minutes.

The rest of the battle is about working up the courage to face dinner, night after night. For the three of us at Athlete Food, getting at least one step prepped in advance greases the rest of the process along. Slice the peppers for Stovetop Fajitas while the coffee brews. Cook the rice for your curry shrimp bowl while you’re on the bike trainer. Mix and form those turkey meatballs on Sunday night after the kids are in bed, and bake them while you watch Downton Abbey.

We know planning ahead sometimes takes a lot of discipline, so we’re here to help: every day of February one, both, or all three of us will post a dinner idea on our Instagram accounts (@athletefood, @athletestyle, @melissalasher) and at the end of the month we'll post a recap of all 28+ dinners.
