AthleteStyle on an Athlete Budget: the Malibu look

It might not quite be summer in New York, but here in LA the sun is getting warmer which means the workouts are getting longer - and the shorts are getting shorter!  This past weekend was a key training weekend for my next race (Rev3 Quassy).  I made plans with one of my training partners, Jen T, who is also racing at Quassy, to get some quality running and biking done -- with the reward of fun and shopping (if we nailed the workouts!).  We actually packed cute dresses to change into after riding 3 hours, running and jumping in a creek.  After we stopped for a refuel at Chipotle, we hit the shops in Malibu.  They were full of amazing summery, breezy California things...big, round sunglasses from Lanvin; the perfectly faded Calvin Rucker jeans; All Saints fringe booties, the perfect bikini cover up to wear to the bar at Nobu.  Great to look at, but not to buy on a triathlete's budget.  After making many mental notes, but no purchases, I went home and found some very affordable options for Malibu style.  Yes, the clothes might not be as well made, but the good thing about athletestyle is the more in shape you are, the better cheapie clothes look!

Here is a link to my pinterest board.  It's a selecion of cut off shorts, chambray shirts, graphic tees, and maxi dresses- selected from a combination of Old Navy, Joe Fresh and JCPenny.  The key is to have the patience to weed through the riff raff - and of course to doing scouting on netaporter.com!

One other thing to note about cheapie clothes - be sure to pair with AT LEAST one thing not cheapie...like nice shoes or designer denim.

Train hard and earn your shopping!  And, let me know what you buy!
