This past weekend, we wrapped up the Lifetime Race to the Toyota Cup with the final race in Rockwall, TX. This was the second year for this Dallas suburb venue, which centered around a Hilton resort on the shores of a large reservoir. Due to the drought in Texas, the water level was too low for the traditional dive from the dock start, so we started in the 74(?) degree water with no wetsuits. The swim started off fast and I quickly found myself in a large group with all of the major players except Sara H., Sara M. and Anabel, who where out front. The swim felt pretty easy, just sitting in this big group. The low water level made the exit very muddy and rocky and also managed to split the group a bit. I got on my bike in a good position with about 10 other girls. The other girls set a fast pace and I wasn't really ready for that, so I just rode my own pace and tried to catch as many people as possible. I came off the bike with a top finish in striking distance, but my run speed still hasn't recovered from this season's injury. I was able to move up to 9th place and was chasing hard to pick up a few more. Even though I didn't finish where I would have liked, it was rewarding enough to be out there racing and fighting for it until the very end. The 9th place finish placed me 4th in the Series, so that's also a win!
Speaking of Series, many thanks to Lifetime Fitness for putting on the show. All we have to do is show up and race, but there are a lot of people working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything is just right. Thanks also to the Wassner Twins team: Nike, NYAC, FRS, ZICO, 1st Endurance, Rudy Project, TYR, ISM, Chia Charger and Triathlon Lab.
My next race will be a running race - either a 5k or a 5 miler. Thanks for reading!
