The Shawanathon is a multi-leg endurance challenge that takes place annually in the Shawangunk Mountains surrounding New Paltz, NY. If you’ve never heard of it, that’s because it is a small, but very competitive, invitation-only event.
One of the perks of participating in a Rev3 Triathlon is that every finisher gets a FREE finisher photo after the race. For "away" races when the entourage isn't able to make it to the finishline, this is a great service. During my finish at Rev3 Wisconsin Dells, the photographer was busy capturing a shot of 3rd place finisher Radka Vodickova giving a post-race interview, but in the background you can see me sneaking into 6th place. As you can see from my face, I was as happy as if I had won the race!

-First time I was racing feeling confident about finishing
And, most significantly,
-This was my first trip away from Amy. We've been quite the couple for the last 6 months and it was hard to leave her behind.
Over the weekend we traveled up to Boston for a family gathering and baptism for SJ's cousins. Fearing that the weekend would be a complete loss training-wise, I decided to find a race to jump into ensure that I would at least get some exercise. I thought I'd find a 5 or 10k, but it just so happened that the Boston Triathlon was on.
After 6 tries I finally got my first win of the year at the Giant Eagle 5150 in Columbus, Ohio. (YEAH!!!!). I also got enough points (still awaiting official confirmation) for a spot in the Hy-Vee Triathlon in September. And, I had fun. Three for three on my goals for the weekend!
One of the best parts about the trip to Columbus was I had a stress-free travel experience. My flights were uneventful, my luggage arrived intact, and I had an incredible homestay. Thanks to one of my triathlete friends Erin Spitler, I was hooked up with David and Sue Bell.
